Not Every Open Door is From God

Not Every Open Door is From God

Not every open door is from God. Not every opportunity is divine. Yet, many believers rush into decisions, convinced that just because something looks good, it must be God’s will. But have you ever stopped to ask; Is this truly from Him, or is this just what I want?

One of the greatest dangers in the Christian walk is self-deception; when we convince ourselves that our desires are God’s direction. We pray, but we don’t wait for an answer. We say we’re seeking His will, but deep down, we just want His approval for what we’ve already decided.

Saul was chosen by God to be king, but his downfall came when he placed his desires above God’s instructions. In 1 Samuel 15, he was commanded to destroy everything, yet he spared what he found appealing. When confronted, Saul insisted that he obeyed, trying to justify his disobedience as an act of worship. But Samuel’s response was precise:

“To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.” (1 Samuel 15:22)

Saul mistook his personal reasoning for divine permission.

Dear HeartChecker, how many times have we done the same? How often do we pursue what we want and then call it “God’s leading”?  We chase relationships, careers, and dreams that feel right, but we never truly surrender them to God. And then, when things fall apart, we wonder why He didn’t bless what was never His will in the first place.

So here’s the hard question: Is your pursuit truly God-led, or is it just your ambition wrapped in Christian language? God’s will is not found in excitement, emotions, or logic. It is found in obedience. And obedience sometimes means walking away from what looks good because it isn’t God.

Before you move, before you decide, before you say “God told me” — Pause, Pray, Listen.

If it’s truly from Him, it will align with His word, His timing, and His peace. If not, no matter how good it looks, it’s not His will.

Don’t let your desires drown out His direction.
